On August 13, 2025, a Georgia court placed Sonder Health Plans into receivership. Receivership is a legal process where a court appoints an independent third party, called a receiver, to take control of and manage a company's assets and business operations. This is often done when a company is in serious financial trouble, such as being insolvent or defaulting on its loans. This step was taken to protect customers of Sonder Health Plans, because the company was facing financial difficulties and couldn't raise enough money to continue operating.
This action follows a period of enhanced supervision that began on April 11, 2025. During that time, the Georgia Office of Commissioner of Insurance and Fire Safety closely monitored Sonder Health Plans. They determined that the company could no longer continue to operate without putting members and health care providers at risk.
Sonder Health Plans will terminate all its plans on Oct. 1, 2025, because of this.
This does not mean that you will lose Medicare coverage. If you do not enroll in a new plan prior to Sep. 30, you will automatically revert to Original Medicare and be enrolled in a Medicare Part D (prescription drug plan).
While Medicare Advantage plans replace everything Original Medicare offers, they also normally offer additional benefits. If you revert to Original Medicare, you may lose access to those additional benefits.
The Special Enrollment Period for Sonder Health Plan Members in Georgia began on Aug. 13, 2025, and lasts until Oct. 31, 2025. However, if you do not pick a new plan by Sep. 30, you will revert to Original Medicare.
Medicare's Annual Enrollment Period begins on Oct. 15 and lasts through Dec. 7. This gives you the opportunity to pick a new plan for the remainder of this year (2025) and also evaluate coverage for 2026.
Because your plan was terminated, you'll also have the opportunity for a guaranteed-issue window to enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan, should you choose that route. You'll have 63 days from the termination of your Sonder Health Medicare Advantage plan to do so.
