2026 → 2027 plan check

Is your 2026 plan changing in 2027?

Look up your current plan by ZIP. We’ll show how CMS maps it for next year — renewal, a new ID, a service-area change, or a plan that is not continuing.

How this works

Check status, then compare

  1. 1 Enter the ZIP where you live
  2. 2 Choose your carrier and current plan
  3. 3 See the CMS mapping for 2027

What a plan change means

Medicare Advantage plans can change every year — even if you stay with the same carrier and the same plan name. CMS publishes a crosswalk that maps each 2026 contract to what happens in 2027: the plan may renew, combine with another plan, change its service area, or not continue.

Use the checker above to look up your current plan by ZIP. A renewal is not a guarantee that premium, doctors, drugs, or extra benefits stay the same. Review the Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) your plan sends, then compare 2027 details before Annual Enrollment (October 15–December 7). A licensed insurance agent can walk through whether a change matters for you.

Types of changes you may see

  • Renewal (same plan ID). CMS lists the plan as continuing under the same contract ID. You are usually enrolled automatically, but premium, MOOP, network, and extra benefits can still change.
  • Renewal under a new ID. The plan continues, but CMS maps it to a different contract or plan ID for 2027. Compare the new ID before you assume nothing changed.
  • Consolidated renewal. Two or more plans are combined into one 2027 plan. Members are typically moved into the surviving plan. Review that plan’s costs and benefits; they may not match either of the 2026 plans exactly.
  • Service area reduction (SAR). The plan is renewing but dropping some counties or ZIPs. If your ZIP is no longer in the service area, you will need a different 2027 plan. That is why this checker asks for your ZIP.
  • Service area expansion (SAE). The plan is renewing and adding counties or ZIPs. Your current coverage may continue, but always confirm your ZIP is still included.
  • Terminated or non-renewed. CMS lists the contract as ending. You will not have that plan on January 1 unless you enroll in a different plan during Annual Enrollment or another valid period. Original Medicare remains, but Medicare Advantage extra benefits would stop.

Plan change FAQs

What is a Medicare Advantage plan change?

Each fall, CMS and the carriers lock in the next calendar year. A “plan change” can mean the contract ends, the plan ID changes, the service area changes, or the plan renews with different premium, benefits, or networks. The checker uses the CMS crosswalk for 2026→2027.

If my plan renews, do I have to do anything?

Often you are enrolled automatically, but you should still read the ANOC and compare 2027 costs and benefits. If doctors, drugs, or extra benefits change in a way that does not work for you, Annual Enrollment (October 15–December 7) is the main window to switch for January 1 coverage.

What if CMS says my plan is terminated or non-renewed?

That plan will not continue next year. You need to choose a new Medicare Advantage plan, a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plus Part D, or Original Medicare with other coverage, during a valid enrollment period. A licensed insurance agent can compare options in your ZIP. There is no obligation to enroll.

What is a consolidated renewal?

The carrier is combining plans. You may be moved into a surviving 2027 plan with a different name, ID, or benefit package. Treat it like a new comparison, not a rubber stamp of last year.

What do SAR and SAE mean?

SAR is a service area reduction: the plan is dropping geography. SAE is a service area expansion: it is adding geography. Either way, availability is by county (and sometimes ZIP), not by state line.

When can I switch plans?

Most people switch during Annual Enrollment, October 15–December 7, for coverage starting January 1. If you already have Medicare Advantage, Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment (January 1–March 31) allows one change. Special Enrollment Periods apply after certain events, including when a plan leaves your area. Enrollment may be limited to certain times of the year.

Why do you need my ZIP?

Medicare Advantage service areas are set by county and sometimes by ZIP. A plan that renews nationally can still leave your county. The checker uses your ZIP so the 2027 mapping is for where you live.

Is this the same as my plan’s ANOC?

No. The ANOC is the official notice from your plan. This page is an educational lookup against the CMS crosswalk and SmartMatch inventory. Always use the ANOC and Summary of Benefits as the source of truth. A licensed insurance agent can help you compare.

Can someone help me review my result?

Yes. After you look up your plan, request a callback or call a licensed SmartMatch insurance agent. An agent can review doctors, drugs, extra benefits, and 2027 costs. This is a solicitation for insurance. There is no obligation to enroll.
