Navigating Your Medicare Journey With Confidence

Clear steps to enrolling in Medicare, securing your coverage and avoiding penalties.

Medicare isn't just a benefit — it's a timeline. Every day you wait closer to your 65th birthday, the window of opportunity gets smaller. We are here to support you through every form and every window, but don't miss your window!

Missing your Initial Enrollment Period can lead to gaps in coverage when you need it most and costs that follow you for the rest of your life.

How to Enroll in Medicare Part A

1

Check Your Eligibility

Most people are automatically enrolled if they already receive Social Security benefits. If not, you'll need to sign up during your Initial Enrollment Period (the 7-month window around your 65th birthday).

2

Gather Your Information

Have your Social Security number, place of birth, and current health insurance information ready. You will also need your citizenship or residency status details.

3

Apply Online or via Phone

The fastest way is through the Social Security website. Alternatively, you can call 1-800-772-1213 or visit your local Social Security office.

4

Review Your Welcome Package

Once processed, you'll receive your "red, white, and blue" Medicare card. Verify the effective date for Part A (Hospital Insurance).

What to Know About Delaying Part B

Why Delay Part B?

Many people choose to delay Part B because they are still working and have "creditable" employer coverage. This allows you to save on the monthly Part B premium while you still have private insurance.
If your employer has fewer than 20 employers, Medicare usually becomes the primary payer, and delaying enrollment could leave you with no coverage at all.
WARNING

Beware the Gotchas!

The 10% Penalty: For every full 12-month period you could have had Part B but didn't, your premium increases by 10% — for life..
Coverage Gaps: If you miss your window, you may have to wait for the General Enrollment Period (Jan.- March), and coverage won't start until months later.
COBRA Trap COBRA is NOT considered "creditable coverage" by Medicare. Waiting while on COBRA often triggers the late penalty.
